At Cobourg Council on Monday April 9th, council will vote whether or not to approve a water playground. The Deputy Mayor has asked for feedback from the public.
It is somewhat unusual to ask this question at this late date – and I give credit to Deputy Mayor Henderson for doing so.
We often hear that today’s citizens are not “engaged.” That they are more interested in family, jobs and sport than in politics. That few bother to vote. That younger citizens, the millennials, are the worst. What is really the problem? Looking at recent events in Cobourg makes the problem obvious – it is our politicians.
There are seven municipalities in Northumberland and in five the mayors welcome question and answer periods for the public and media. But not in Cobourg.
