The Town has released its 2020 Town of Cobourg Releases 2020 Municipal Operating and Capital Budget Schedule. The Town has a budget page with the budget schedule, news releases, and the budget documents.
All this information can be found here:
In recent weeks, Toronto Mayor John Tory has slammed the Ford government’s spending plans, arguing that proposed funding levels for municipalities will lead to service reductions. City officials have chimed in, arguing these changes may also necessitate tax increases.
Toronto (as do other municipalities) has other options, including curbing spending on its wage bill for city employees, reducing administrative costs and reforming public services so they’re as good or better—at lower cost.
In Part 1, we said, “In order to thrive, Cobourg Council must prioritize effectively”. Nowhere is this more important than when setting the Town’s operating and capital budgets. In fact, it will be one of our Council’s first duties.
The CTA wrote to Deputy Mayor Henderson and Council several months ago to ask how our town was doing financially with respect to the budget. We wanted to know if we were on track or whether we were over budget. We were disappointed because we were not given the actual spend numbers.
We thought you might like to know about a couple of town meetings next week. Council is looking for citizen feedback. Both meetings are on Wednesday October 12.
The Town budget meeting is at 2:30 pm at Victoria Hall (a couple of CTA directors will be making submissions).
