Watching the watchmen: citizen groups springing up in Northumberland

The formation of the Cobourg Taxpayers Association in September represents the latest citizen’s lobby group in West Northumberland, following the creation of the Citizen’s Council of Hamilton Township in the summer, and the granddaddy of them all, the Port Hope Ratepayers Association, was formed in 2010.

CAO Report to Council Regarding Parks and Recreation Staffing Levels

The report by CAO Stephen Peacock regarding Lydia Smith’s letter of September 1st raises more questions than it provides answers.

However, what it does do is vindicate Ms. Smith from the Mayor’s unfounded statement at the September 15th Council meeting that the numbers used in her letter contained “so much erroneous information”.

Northumberland Medical Arts Inc wants $312K fees waived for new building

As reported on the Cobourg Internet – www.cobourginternet.com

At the next COW meeting on October 19, the group managing the new building on Hospital owned land is asking for a waiver of $312,000 in fees.

CTA Council Submission on Community Grants Policy

The CTA made its first submission to Council on September 28, 2015. Town staff had prepared a Municipal Community Grants Policy and was recommending adopting the policy at the Committee of the Whole meeting that evening. Dennis Nabieszko, Secretary of the CTA, made a presentation to Council noting that the proposed policy was inadequate and lacking in many areas.
