CTA Presents Recommendations on the Town Budget Process

The Cobourg Taxpayers Association (CTA) presented some key recommendations on the Town budget process.

Some of the key highlights of the CTA submission:

  1. In 2015, seniors’ Canada Pension Plan payments increased by only 1.8%. During that same period the Town’s spending (Direct Control Net Expenditures) increased by 5.2% or almost $773,000.

“Week in Review” on 89.7 FM Oct 30, 2015

Lydia Smith, CTA President and Paul Pagnuelo, CTA treasurer discuss with John Hill the report by CAO Stephen Peacock regarding Lydia Smith’s letter of September 1st on the increase in Parks & Recreation staffing. Mayor Gil Brocanier incorrectly declared the letter to be factually wrong and the CAO report does not support the Mayor’s declaration.

Watching the watchmen: citizen groups springing up in Northumberland

The formation of the Cobourg Taxpayers Association in September represents the latest citizen’s lobby group in West Northumberland, following the creation of the Citizen’s Council of Hamilton Township in the summer, and the granddaddy of them all, the Port Hope Ratepayers Association, was formed in 2010.

Northumberland Medical Arts Inc wants $312K fees waived for new building

At the next COW meeting on October 19, the group managing the new building on Hospital owned land is asking for a waiver of $312,000 in fees.
