Since, we are now halfway through the year, it is important that the citizens of Cobourg know the current status of the town’s budget; i.e. are we on track, over or under budget for each department? If we are over, what steps are being taken to make adjustments for the remainder of the year?
CTA Urges Council to Reject Hiring Consultant
June 14, 2016 UPDATE: Council used common sense and rejected this expenditure.
On the June 13th Committee of the Whole agenda, there is a proposal to approve the hire of a Business Attraction Consultant. This proposal to spend $61,500 for four months ($184,000 annualized) has numerous issues in how taxpayers’ money is spent.
CTA Support for Don Morrison Letter on CIVIC
Don Morrison sent a detailed letter to the Town outlining many concerns about the CIVIC proposal. His letter documented thorough and detailed observations on why Council should NOT adopt the CIVIC plan. The CTA agrees with Mr. Morrison and has sent a letter of support to the Mayor and Council.

Bryan Lambert and Rocky Varcoe, owner of the Park Theatre, were John Hill’s guests on Week in Review on 89.7 FM to discuss the latest proposal from the “Friends of the Park Theatre”.
Initiative Saves Taxpayers $10,000
The CTA would like to thank Ian Davey, Cobourg Treasurer and Sally Leblanc, Supervisor of Public Buildings for their initiative and extra hard work to save taxpayers $10,000 in replacing the Victoria Hall chiller tower platform. Initially there was only one bid of about $40,000 but Ian was not willing to accept the excessive amount quoted.
