It is budget time in my hometown of Cobourg, Ont. Policing is the costliest municipal service, accounting for almost half the property owners’ tax levy.
Cobourg’s police service is the most oversized line item on the town’s budget.
Cobourg’s 2022 Operating Budget is increasing 6.3%. After accounting for New Assessment Growth of 2.2%, the average resident will see an increase of 4.1% but for some the increase will be much more. Other municipalities tax increases are much lower.
