We began this series of essays on Back to Basics by recalling the laying of the cornerstone for Cobourg’s magnificent town hall:
On December 1, 1856, Cobourg Mayor D. E. Boulton presided at the laying of the cornerstone for Victoria Hall.
In Part 1, we said, “In order to thrive, Cobourg Council must prioritize effectively”. Nowhere is this more important than when setting the Town’s operating and capital budgets. In fact, it will be one of our Council’s first duties.
Everyone agrees that our spectacular waterfront is an invaluable asset and that the protection and preservation of it is a given. It is an asset that requires a solid financial foundation and ongoing investment.
On December 1, 1856, Cobourg Mayor D. E. Boulton presided at the laying of the cornerstone for Victoria Hall. The Cobourg Star wrote that “great as our progress has been our past is but a trifle to the great future which lies yet unopened before us.”
